The right hive’s colony now has access to an additional box – don’t worry, no realtor fees are necessary. This gives the bees more space to store honey, support an increasing workforce, and for the queen to lay eggs.
When the bees are tired of maintaining their extra space and want to downsize to a smaller, more easily managed home, the extra box will be phased out. The size of the hive reflects the needs of the bees; it’s something we keep an eye on all year long.
