Without any blooms to provide nectar, bees live off their finite honey stores during the winter. Periods such as this are the reason that honeybees have evolved to produce such large reserves of honey. During this time, beekeepers are limited in their ability to manipulate the colonies. Therefore, we are limited to quick peeks for life and to pop in some additional winter feed as insurance. We are currently looking for signs of life within the beehives and will add a supply of fondant that the bees can rely on if they eat all of their honey.
