Newly installed colonies are foraging on everything currently in bloom. Honey bees are flying around the beehive in a figure-eight fashion. This is a technique used to orient themselves to their new environment. There have been a few dead bees on the ground below the entrance of the beehive. This is from the colony dragging out individuals who dies prior to installation. Honey bees like to keep their hive very tidy, so while seeing dead bees can seem alarming, it’s actually a sign that they are settling into their new home. Pollen is in supply already, and the heavy nectar flow usually begins around this time. Spring is upon us…
