Hive Update: March

At this point in the year, we hope to see most queens begin laying fresh eggs again! The workers currently in the beehive were hatched in late fall, so the eggs laid now will be raised to be the new foraging force for the spring. We’re currently looking for fresh eggs, but temperatures are still low and fully opening the hive could damage the cluster of bees. We’re minimizing the bees’ exposure and may not be able to see the bees themselves. We’re continuing to evaluate the bees’ food store and providing supplemental feed if the colony feels light or low on resources.
