The nectar flow is upon us, and the forager bees are actively bringing in pollen and nectar. The queen is continuously laying to produce more colony members during this time of plenty. Though the queen will be laying primarily female brood, she will chose to lay a higher percentage of drones in the spring to coincide with mating season. A drone’s sole purpose is to mate with an unrelated queen, not to forage or to care for their colony.
