Raw Story | May 17, 2018 - The View host Meghan McCain admits she can barely keep track of all the potentially criminal allegations against President Donald Trump — and her co-host Sunny Hostin said the president and his apologists were “banking on” that.

Host Whoopi Goldberg marveled at Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani for moving the goalposts to suggest campaign collusion with Russia was both legal and acceptable, and Hostin called out the former New York City mayor.

“He is just lying,” said Hostin, a former federal prosecutor. “I mean, you can’t collude and get information from the Russians and the Germans — that’s treason. I just — he just keeps on lying and lying, and as an attorney, I’m listening to the lies and I’m like, what are you talking about?”

“He says, ‘This is a witch hunt,’ and it’s caught a lot of witches and warlocks — 75 charges already, 22 people have been indicted,” she added. “So this suggestion somehow that the Mueller investigation isn’t finding anything is nonsense.”

She said Trump defenders were obscuring the president’s wrongdoing by insisting — correctly, she pointed out — that collusion was technically not a crime.

“Collusion is not a crime, everyone, there’s no enumerated crime for collusion,” Hostin said. “But the crimes of obstruction of justice and treason, conspiracy — they are all out there. I have to tell you, when you have 75 criminal charges filed already, you can’t say that this is a big nothingburger.”

McCain admitted she had trouble following the complicated narrative that’s dribbled out through daily news reports on Trump and his associates, and she confessed that she didn’t understand the law well enough to make sense of all the allegations.

“I will say every day there is a drip, drip, drip, and I come into our show every day, and I say, thank god there is a lawyer here,” McCain said. “Depending on what channel you watch, and I’m not a lawyer. I don’t really understand, but what I do know, and thank you by the way, for explaining it every morning.”

Hostin thanked her colleague, and she said the president and his apologists understood that most Americans lacked a sophisticated understanding of the law and the basic facts in the case.

“He is banking on that, he’s banking on people believing him, Giuliani and Trump,” Hostin said.
