‘The View’ Crew Weighs in on Harriet Tubman $20 Bill Controversy

“One thing you’ll never see is Donald Trump on the peso, I’ll tell you that right now,” Joy Behar says.

The Wrap | April 21, 2016 - The women of “The View” put their mouths where America’s money is during Thursday’s episode of the ABC talk show, weighing in on the controversy over abolitionist icon Harriet Tubman replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill.

Joy Behar, Raven-Symone and the merry band of opinion-slingers took particular exception with presidential candidate Donald Trump and former candidate Ben Carson suggesting that Tubman perhaps might be better off on the lowly $2 bill.

“Ben Carson is also the guy who says that Obamacare is worse than slavery,” Behar marveled, asking. “What is wrong with him?”

What’s so shocking to me is, where does this $2 come from? Why does it have to be a $2 bill?” guest panelist Sunny Hostin asked. “I just don’t understand that. And in fact, there are a lot of songs that talk about a $2 ho, and for some reason, it angered me so much.

Raven-Symone brought her own unique thoughts to the topic, offering, “I really hope that they didn’t say $2 because of the value, I hope they said it because it was special.”

Behar put the kibosh on that line of thinking immediately, hinting at a whiff of conspiracy in the suggested denomination.

“No, they [said it] because it’s obscure, because no one uses it, no one sees it,” Behar asserted. “Ever hear the phrase, ‘As phony as a $2 bill?’ That’s a phrase. they know what they’re doing, those two.”

Paula Faris suggested that, since many people — well, her, anyway — can’t name all of the people on U.S. currency, perhaps the argument is overblown.

“We’re getting so upset, and we don’t even know who’s on our currency,” Faris said.

Hostin, however, countered with a Team Tubman assertion.

Symbols do matter, and I do want my children to see Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, not on the $2 bill,” Hostin said. “It’s important, it makes a statement.

“One thing you’ll never see is Donald Trump on the peso, I’ll tell you that right now,” Behar offered.
